The Olympic committee officially made the announcement today that the Summer games Tokyo 2020 is postponed.
The global pandemic of the corona virus raised concerns for the games to take place this summer as planned. The date is unknown when the Olympics will be held, they specified no later than summer 2021.
The only other times in history the games were moved was due to World War One & World War Two. This is the very first time the games were moved due to a global pandemic.
"The leaders agreed that the Olympic Games in Tokyo could stand as a beacon of hope to the world during these troubled times," the IOC and Tokyo 2020 organizing committeesaid in a joint statement. "And that the Olympic flame could become the light at the end of the tunnel in which the world finds itself at present."
