Bitterroot National Forest - Have a Safe Independence Day!

Bitterroot National Forest has a few considerations for visitors headed into the forest this Independence Day weekend. Fireworks are not permitted on all National Forests year-round. No fireworks of any kind may be discharged anywhere within the Bitterroot National Forest, regardless of weather conditions or holidays. So Please leave them at home. Violations are punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or six months in jail. Anyone who starts a wildfire can be held liable for suppression costs which can be substantial. All campgrounds on the Forest are open and ready for visitors and they do fill up quickly. They are all first come first served, but you must occupy a campsite on the first night of your stay. In other words, you are not allowed to reserve your spot by putting out coolers or chairs or even setting up your camp prior to your stay. And, as always…never leave a campfire unattended. Douse it with lots of water and stir is around until it is no longer warm to the touch. Enjoy your stay and have a happy & safe Forth of July weekend!
